an
island of misfit toys
|

Historian Rick Goldschmidt says that the number one question he's
asked about the special is "What is wrong with the MISFIT GIRL DOLL?"
Goldschmidt responds "Apparently, her problem was more psychological
than physical." |
Give me your tired drag queens,
your poor and starving artists,
your huddled fire performers.
Anyone who identifies with the misfit toys of the classic 1964 claymation
Christmas Special Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer will find family at
V.
Our culture works hard every day to tell us how to dress, how to fix our
hair, what job to have, what's hot and what's not. We salute anyone
brave enough to experiment, to step outside of their safety zone and try
something new. We hold in the highest regard those who express
themselves without reservation.
We, the misfits, are what make San Francisco special. Here's who
we'll actively encourage to be a part of V.

Trannyshack Trannies
These shocking parody-of-a-parody drag queens have been dropping jaws for
nearly a decade. A tranny shack sighting is a special treat.
The girls of Tuesday night will always receive a special welcome at V.

Fire Performers
Whether it's poi, staff, or flaming hoops, fire performers of all flavors
are beautiful freaky sexy people. We hope to see lots of our friends
from the Temple of
Poi. Pictured at right, our very own Emo.
Artists
The muralists of our city, the painters, the sculptors, the dancers, the
musicians and singers. Brave artists sacrifice security to make our
would a more beautiful place. From all of us at V-- Thank you.
The
Bay Area Hoopers
Because it's hard to take life too seriously when you've got a hula hoop
around your waist. Pictured at left, our very own Jefferson hooping
on stilts.
Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
The Sisters are a San Francisco institution. They fight complacency
and raise money with irreverence and humor.

A few more of our favorite misfits; Simpsons fans, vegan hippies, Friends
of Bill, teachers, nurses, activists, computer nerds, bike geeks, opera
queens, politicos, and anyone in a costume.
