solar energy

Here's how it works.  Solar panels on the roof are connected to the PG&E grid.  As soon as the morning sun hits the panels, the system begins producing electricity.  Whatever electricity isn't used by V is fed into the grid causing our meter to run backwards!

During the day, you may be using some of the clean and renewable power that we are producing.

After dark, we rely on the grid and the meter runs forward again.  Our utility bill will reflect the net difference between electricity that we produce and the electricity that we consume. The goal is to reach a net of zero consumed power and a zero balance utility bill.

In the case of a daytime power outage, we'll be the only restaurant in the area that's fully operational.

Reduce

One of the ways that we'll reduce our power consumption is by utilizing L.E.D. and compact fluorescent lighting throughout the restaurant.  Any new equipment that we purchase will be Energy Star rated.  Also, because this is San Francisco, we can get away without an energy draining air conditioning system.

A solar hot water heater will help us reduce our need to use gas to heat our water.  As gas prices continue to rise, this system should pay for itself quickly.
